Chapter 2: Elfish
by ~NeoGaeaChapter 2: Elfish
"High above the trees, in the clutches of a black dragon; our hero was being carried off to its lair. The dragon took our hero to a huge mountain. She was to become the horrid beast's meal.
Okay so that was a major dramatization. But this is bad. Mostly because I have such a terrible fear of heights. Which is weird, considering I like to climb. Go figure. It's gotta be my curiosity streak. So there I was, just hanging around. I glanced up at the dragon; it was very large and quite long. So…how would I make a meal? Unless, of course, I was going to be a snack. That was a big mistake, because I imagined a fondue pot and me being dipped in chocolate. We were getting closer and closer. I looked below and there was a large bird flying under the dragon. I guessed it was a rukh by the size and that's when I got an idea. I scrambled for my hybrid in my shoulder bag. Once I found it I swung above me slashing the dragon's right claw. The Dragon yowled and dropped me. I then dropped onto the rukh and caused it to drop some feet in the air closer to a grove of trees.
"Sorry about that," I said apologetic.
The rukh turned its head, "A human!?"
It flipped over in surprise and I fell off. At least I didn't drop far and luckily I had trees to break my fall. But, of course, not before the first two branches broke under and I fell off three, then I got my left foot caught and I ended up upside down.
"Why…can't I just have a normal moment?" I asked aloud.
I heard giggling and I turned to look and saw a girl sitting on a branch. She was lanky but she didn't look frail. This time I was certain this person was an elf; her pointy ears were bigger than the demon's. Hey, makes sense to me. She had long brown hair tied back. Through her bangs I saw a golden circlet. She had what appeared to be violet eyes. She was wearing a royal blue outfit, arm bracelets and bands, anklets, and dark blue slippers. She looked at me and giggled again.
"Hello. Are you stuck?" She asked cheerfully.
"Nah, I like hanging upside down while the blood rushes to my brain."
"You're being awfully nasty."
"As bad of a day I've had, you expect me to be nice?" I mostly mumbled that.
"Would you like help down?"
"Not if your gonna cause me to fall to the ground I don't."
"Yer no fun," She said so that I couldn't hear it. "I never seen a red dragon have so much problems." She was now standing on the same branch I was hanging from.
"I'm not a red dragon. I'm not a dragon period."
"Really?" That peeked her interest. "What are ya then?"
"A human."
"What's a human?"
"A non magical creature." It was the only way I could think of describing myself.
"Oh. Can I keep you?"
"What? Of course not! You can't keep humans."
"Why not?"
"I'm not a pet."
Well took it long enough. I don't know if I should be happy or what that my leg came loose from the branch. I grabbed a tree branch as I was falling. I swung myself up. So those stupid gymnastic lessons do pay off. It was nice not having the blood rush to my skull. I blinked and there she was.
"Yer pretty," she said smiling big.
"Uh…thanks."
"Will you be my mommy?"
That wasn't something I expected so naturally I was taken back. "What happened to your mommy?"
"She passed away sometime after I was born," that was the first time I heard sadness in her voice.
"Oh. Well I can't be your mommy. I don't know if I'm staying in this world and even if I do, not in an elf village. I want my own place. Besides I'm not looking forward to having kids anytime soon."
She looked upset. As if I broken a promise to her. "Why not?"
"Because, I'm still young myself. I'm only twenty-four."
"So? She pouted.
"Sides I doubt your father would want some strange person all of a sudden becoming your mommy."
She lit up. "You must meet Daddy!" She said gleefully"
"Umm..." I started but before I could reply she grabbed my hand and tugged me down and we dropped to the ground.
"Yay!" She said skipping off with me in tow. "By the way, what's your name?"
"Joslyn."
"I'm Kayla!"
Well, that's how it happened. I was taken to a…well several tree houses. Or forts, hard to describe. Thanks to all that studying about mythical creatures, my best guess was she was a wood elf, and this was where they had their homes. We walked around till we got to a nice sized home. My guess was it was a wood elf's version of a castle or palace. Kayla pulled me to a lift of some kind and up we went. She then pulled me through the house until we came to a large hall. There stood two male elves. The taller one had an altered version of Kayla's hairstyle and was blonde. He was wearing green and yellow robes. Quite handsome too. The second looked very spoiled. His hair was short with a strand hanging down his face. He wore purple robes and a gold necklace. Kayla took me in tow over too them.
"Daddy! Look what I found. She's a human," Kayla said introducing me. I felt embarrassed.
"Kayla you shouldn't be bringing strange humans to our home without permission," the young male said. "Especially adult humans they tend to be a nuisance."
"OOOh look who's all hoity-toity. High and mighty we thinks we are just because we are an elf." I said in a nasty tone. I didn't like the way he was looking down at me the way he did.
"Hmph. You have a lot of guts human, talking to an elfin prince that way."
"I'd have curtsied as I said it, but I don't curtsy to anyone. And don't think you can bully me just because you're an elf or an elf prince. I don't back down to bullies. Besides they're nothing but cowards anyways."
"Why you…" the young elf came over and went to slap me, but I blocked his hand with mine and smiled at him in a mean way.
"Now that's no way for a prince to act."
"Back down, Taltros," the older elf commanded.
"But Father, she dares to insult me," Taltros said.
"Can't insult the insulting," was my reply.
"Why you…"Taltros moved, but his father caught his shoulder.
"What did I say?" There was a warning in his tone.
Only I can start a fight with someone during a first meeting. No wait so can Rena can too. Apparently Kayla was enjoying this. My guess is this was the first time someone stood up to him or maybe to the royal court. Something to that effect. I was only grasping straws. Taltros backed down and his father stepped near me.
"You are not a human from this world. You are from that modern world correct?" The father asked in a calm and soft voice. I think it was his elfin glamour magic, but his voice sounded warm and soft like cotton or silk. I could feel it wrapping around my body and I quickly looked away and opened my large shoulder bag and started rummaging through it, much to the elves surprise. I pulled out a little bag I had of salt, I carried it due to my childhood love of fantasy and always worried I might get into a situation like this. I opened the bag and tossed salt on the older elf, closed the bag placed it back into my shoulder bag and pulled out my twigs from an oak, ash and Honey Locust bounded with a red string and waved it in front of him.
"What are you doing?" The older elf asked.
"Well apparently I'm not dispelling elfin glamour. Maybe I should have thrown more salt," I looked into my bag.
"Actually it does work, but I'm not using elfin glamour to trap you."
"Oh. So then you're just trying to make yourself more attractive."
"Basically. Sorry to alarm you so," the older elf said then bowed. "I am Daverin, King of the wood elves. This is one of my seven sons; Taltros and I see you've already met my baby girl. Charming isn't she?"
"Oh yeah." I said with a hint of sarcasm.
Daverin chuckled. "I apologize if she's given you problems."
"No need to apologize. She's a child after all."
"True." Daverin smiled. And like the last time it was breath taking.
He was really gorgeous. But most elves were from what I remembered in the myths. But this was more than a myth. Thing is I don't want to get close to him. Saying that he does fall for me I don't want to be a stepmother to eight children. Sides I'm not too sure if I like being tricked by magic into loving some one. Okay so I wouldn't and I don't like the idea of being tricked.
"So tell me, how did you come into this world, Ms…" Daverin began.
"Joslyn. And I entered somehow through a fairy ring."
"Ms. Joslyn," He smiled at me.
"No, just Joslyn." I smiled back.
"Where's my hospitality?" Daverin spoke, "I should be offering you a drink or a sweet."
"Uh…no thanks. No offence, but I don't want to be trapped here by elfin magic."
"Oh, you know about that sort of thing," Daverin said he sounded disappointed. "Well that would make sense after all since you know about glamour.
"Yeah, I studied the world of magic and what would be for my world myth."
"So there's no tricking you or conning you or anything?"
"I doubt it." He really sounds disappointed. Great. Now I kinda feel bad.
"Well I hope you enjoy your visit none the less," there was sharpness to his tone. He smiled at me, before he turned away to his duties. His smile wasn't friendly almost wicked. Making me uncomfortable.
"Will you come and play with me?" Kayla asked pulling my arm.
I blinked, "Um…sure for a while, I guess." I looked towards Daverin, but he didn't turn back to me. So I walked off with Kayla. We sat and played with her cloth dolls and stuffed animals.
"Your dad didn't seem to like me at the end of our meeting."
"I think he really wanted you to stay here too. Did you see the way he looked at you? I think he fell in love."
"No one falls in love like that. Only in stories and potions."
"Then maybe you're a love potion!" It was so cute the way she said that, but kind of disturbing.
We didn't talk about it for a while. Just played with dollies and animals. Gee, a stuffed dragon ass, now I can die knowing I've seen everything. Though I gotta admit, I want one now. I've never seen one. I wonder if they're real, well duh, but it could be extinct or based off a fake mythical creature. Maybe I should ask Kayla.
"I don't like being an only girl," Kayla finally said.
"Why not?"
"Because I have no one to play dollies with," she looked sad, but brightened up quickly. "But if you ate or drank something here you could stay with us! And Daddy would like you again."
Before I could say any thing, she got up and ran over to the little table in her room. There was a bowl of fruit and she grabbed an apple then came running back over to me and held it out. I took the fruit from her little hand and stared at it. Then I looked up at her smiling face. I looked down at the apple; I guess this is what they call forbidden fruit. I started to draw the fruit closer to my lips and I slowly opened my mouth. I closed my eyes about to bite down; when I started to realize that she was using some sort of weak magic on me. I knew I didn't want to stay, so I pulled the apple away and lowered my head.
"I'm sorry. This is not how I want things. I want to stay on my own accord. My own will. Not with be spelled foods. I have to make the choice."
"Fine! Just go! Leave!" She stamped her foot and pointed to the door.
I got up and subconsciously put the apple in my bag. I wondered about the palace trying to find my way. Why isn't there an elf to direct you when you need, it? I was getting more and more lost when I happened on Daverin's chambers. HOW?! Was I going in circles? And was the door open? Was there a door? OH SHIT! More elfin glamour!
Daverin came out of, my guess was a bathroom, cuz he was wet and had only a towel around his waist and drying his long hair with another. I had just turned on my heels and was quickly leaving when he noticed me.
"Let me guess…lost?" I turned to see him grinning from ear to ear. What could I do? What else? I stuck my tongue out at him, which made him laugh. "You humans are such fun."
"Up yours."
"Up mine?"
"It's an expressing basically telling you to stuff it."
Daverin blinked and stared at me blankly, "Stuff what?"
"Never mind."
"Humans."
"Nothing wrong with us."
"Ha!" Was all he said.
I grinned mischievously, "Oh? And for a moment, I thought you had an interest in this human. But I guess I'm wrong."
Daverin blushed. "Of-of course!"
"Yeah…when you get the chance, you wanna show me a way out?"
It was his turn to grin mischievously. "Sure, but you'll have to wait for me to get dressed. I wouldn't bother standing outside if I were you. This place is heavy in elfin magic to confuse outsiders. Even just stepping out the door will cause you to become lost."
Dammit! He's good. But I'm no amateur. I stood there trying to pay attention to everything, but him. Of course, a naked person of the opposite sex is hard to ignore especially when he's got a nice ass. So I basically stood there eyeing his ass as he dried and slowly dressed. Okay so I don't have any shame. I don't bother.
"I see you apparently like my ass," Daverin spoke catching me off guard.
Huh? "What makes you say that?" I asked trying to sound innocent.
"I've been watching your reflection in my mirror over there," he said pointing.
I looked to where he was pointing and my face turned red. There I was staring back at myself with Daverin just barely in view of the mirror. "So your most attractive feature is your ass. It's the only thing you really got going for you there." I had the "whatever" expression. My eyes were firmly shut, mouth opened, shrugging my shoulders with my palms up.
"Really? Should I try to prove you wrong?" Daverin said.
When I opened my eyes and lowered my arms he was on top of me. I was pinned between him and a wall. I was staring into his beautiful violet eyes. His wet hair clung to his face and bare chest. He had only gotten breeches on when he noticed I was staring at his ass. He had both arms blocking my any chance of escape. Not that I really wanted too. With his left hand he brushed aside one of my braids and stared into my green eyes. His touch was soft and light. He leaned into me and placed his lips lightly on mine, testing to see if I'd accept and well…I did. I was usually too busy living life and being independent that I really never had time for boyfriends or lovers. So I figured what the hell, it's just a kiss. I moved my hands to his chest and was quite surprised to find it to be very soft and smooth. Well the smooth part I figured. He then wrapped his arms to my waist and I slid my hands up his chest and around his neck. We stood there kissing for a short time, but it seemed for hours.
We pulled a little away and I placed my hands back onto his chest and we stared into each other's eyes. I wanted him then and there and might have if there wasn't that tug at the back of my mind. I finally paid attention to that tug and came to my senses and slapped Daverin. He stepped back and put the back of his right hand on his left cheek. He was angry and surprised. I was mainly angry.
"How dare you use glamour like that on me," I glared.
He smiled, but it was not friendly, smug? No he was being arrogant, he stood sideways and looked away from me. "Heh. I thought that's what you wanted." He looked back at me with that look. "It's not hard to tell you lust for me."
Now I was getting pissed. "I do not appreciate you playing on my feelings and emotions. How I feel about you is my business and mine alone. I don't act upon lust on my own accord, and I don't like someone using it to their advantage."
"Dually noted." He turned his head again. I wanted to know what his facial expression was, but his hair hid his face. "Allow me to finish dressing and then I'll escort you out."
"Thank you," I was still angry, but at least I was calm. I never stared at him again.
Daverin escorted me out of the palace, in fact to the edge of the village. Neither of us talking. It was getting dark, but Daverin didn't offer to put me up for the night and I didn't ask. We were both hurt and angry and we wanted to be as far away as possible from each other. Well I wondered somewhere. It was getting too dark to see, I had a flashlight, but I wasn't thinking about it at the time and I was getting tired. So I set up camp wherever I was and eventually feel asleep.
I woke to voices. One said, "No treasure? How can someone not have treasure?" the second went, "I'm telling you there's nothing of value in here."
"Hey!" I yelled, "get outta my bag!" I sat up to see two guys about my age with fire red hair and deep red or brown eyes it was hard to tell from this distance. I grabbed my hybrid, which I had next to me that night. I used the technique the dwarf told me and made the weapon larger about sword size.
The one holding my bag looked at me and then tossed it at me. "Nothing of value in there anyways."
"It doesn't matter. You don't go rummaging through someone's personal belongings."
The two laughed and then the second spoke, "Who's gonna tell a couple of red dragon's what they could or could not do." With that the two changed into large red dragons.
My heart jumped and I found myself running for my life. I made my weapon small again and shoved it into my bag. I never once looked back. I learned the hard way that you should never look back and besides this time I didn't want to go rolling down a hill. Instead I was scrambling up a rocky hill and ran till I got to the cliff edge. The dragons, which apparently flew slowly so they could enjoy the chase, landed cutting me off. I had a choice, jump and no doubt die or become dragon munchies. I looked over cliff and looked back at the laughing dragons and then I jumped.
